"Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" is a song co-written and recorded past American pop rock artist Eric Carmen. Information technology was released as the 2d single from Carmen'southward self-titled debut solo album, the song peaked at number xi on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1976, remaining in the Tiptop 40 for ten weeks.[1] The vocal reached number i on the Billboard Easy Listening nautical chart. In Canada, information technology was a number-one hit on both charts.[2] [3]

The melody of "Never Gonna Autumn in Love Once more" is based on the third movement (Adagio) from Symphony No. 2 past Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

On his second solo LP, Boats Against the Electric current, Carmen had a subsequent Height xl hit entitled "She Did It", a happy respond to the loneliness and lovelessness described in this song and its as melancholy predecessor, "All By Myself".

Carmen performed "Never Gonna Fall in Honey Again" and his prior hitting, "All By Myself" on The Midnight Special television program on July 23, 1976 (flavour four, episode 37). The evidence was hosted past The Spinners.[4]

Australian singer songwriter Marker Holden recorded and released a version Apr 1976 as his debut single. The vocal was a commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Kent Music Report.[12] [xiii]

Groundwork and release [edit]

Marking Holden released his debut studio anthology Dawn in Darkness in 1975. Consisting entirely of original songs, the anthology was a commercial failure, selling approximately 2,000 copies[fourteen] In April 1976 Holden received a telephone call from Colin Petersen, EMI Music Australia'due south A&R, who suggested he cover "Never Gonna Fall in Dear Over again". In his 2017 autobiography, Holden said recording information technology "was a take a chance for me to have a hit". Holden promoted the song by performing the track on Countdown, where he performed the track while handing out red carnations to the audition. It became an infamous operation which led to Holden'southward nickname of "The Carnation Child"[xv]

Dissimilar "All by Myself," Carmen'due south version of "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" was not released in Australia and therefore did not chart. All the same, Dana reached #31 in the UK in 1976 with the song.[xvi] Her British release charted concurrently with Carmen's and Holden's versions.

Other versions [edit]

  • Frank Sinatra performed the song many times in concert in the tardily 1970s, most notably during the 1976 MDA Telethon. Addicted of Eric Carmen'south songs, he had arrangements made of both this vocal and "All By Myself." He never recorded either song.
  • Tony Burrows covered the song in 1976 with the studio grouping Magic.
  • Castilian vocaliser Miguel Bosé also covered it (in English) in his debut LP Linda in 1977.
  • John Travolta covered the vocal in 1978.
  • Tommy Page covered the vocal on his 1991 anthology From the Heart.
